Advantages of Turkish Citizenship by Investment

Overview

Turkish Citizenship by Investment does not differ from citizenship attained by birth, it is for life and can be passed down to next generations. All properties in Turkey are freehold properties and applicants are not required to declare worldwide income and assets in other countries. Investors can recover their investments after a must-hold period of three years and there is no inheritance tax unlike in many other developed countries. Turkish citizenship also offers a route to the United States under special visa categories for Turkish nationals. In addition, Turkey offers a favorable business environment with special trade areas set up by the Turkish government, including customs unions, low tax rates and other generous perks including government programs to develop and support businesses.

Requirements

Access to Turkish citizenship was eased for foreign investors with amendments made to Turkey’s citizenship law. The new regulations were published in the Official Gazette on September 18, 2018, lowering minimum investment amount from USD 1 million to USD 250,000 for property acquisitions and from USD 2 million to USD 500,000 for financial investments.

Visa-free travel

Turkish passport holders are entitled to visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to more than 110 countries including Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Brazil, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.

Other benefits

Turkish citizenship entitles holders to state pension, free healthcare and education as well as voting rights. Turkey also allows its nationals to hold dual citizenship.

US Relocation Route

Turkish nationals are eligible to apply to relocate to the US through the E2 Investor Visa under treaties in place between the two countries. The E2 visa allows applicants to relocate to the US with their family members. E2 visa has quick processing times of a few months and is a much quicker and easier alternative for investors from backlogged countries facing long waiting periods for US EB-5 green card visas. Only 10,000 EB5 visas are issued annually, or 700 per country, and China and India are among countries that face a backlog. Unlike E5 visa, E2 visa has travel flexibility and no rigid enforcement of residence rules. It gives immediate permission to work in the US for the applicant and spouses.
